High-voltage switch-disconnector design and optimization (72.5/420 kV)
Mechanical design of 72.5/420 kV high-voltage switch-disconnectors, with optimization of the operating mechanism and support structure.
PROBLEM
High-voltage switch-disconnectors must keep reliable contact under electrodynamic forces from short-circuit currents, conductor tension, wind, ice and seismic loads. As voltage rises, insulation clearances and moment arms grow, placing decisive loads on the operating mechanism, post insulators and support structure.
APPROACH
I treat the product family as a modular architecture that scales across voltage levels. I model the drive and locking mechanism kinematically to optimize dead-center positions and drive torque, and size the current path and contact system against contact pressure and temperature-rise criteria. I verify support structures through static and modal analysis to align the design with IEC 62271-103 type-test requirements.
RESULT
A product family with a high share of common parts, fast adaptation between voltage levels and simplified site assembly.
MY ROLE
