Medium-voltage switch-disconnector design and optimization (24/36 kV)
Compact, manufacturable and cost-effective redesign of 24 and 36 kV medium-voltage switch-disconnectors.
PROBLEM
Inside medium-voltage panels, a switch-disconnector must hold insulation clearances within a tight volume, stay mechanically intact under short-time withstand current and operate consistently over thousands of opening and closing cycles, while meeting cost and manufacturability targets.
APPROACH
I compared alternative geometries and materials for the contact blades, post insulators and frame. After identifying the critical design parameters, I reworked tolerances on sheet metal and machined parts to match process capability, then verified mechanism life and contact pressure through analysis and prototype testing.
RESULT
A design with fewer parts and assembly steps, lower sensitivity to production variation and readiness for mechanical endurance testing.
MY ROLE
Concept and detail design, tolerance analysis, prototype and test coordination
