Method development in surface treatment and coating processes
In projects run jointly with production, engineering and sales, I improved operational production costs by 30% and overall production parameters by 27% through method development in surface treatment and coating processes.
PROBLEM
Surface treatment and coating depend on many interacting variables such as pretreatment quality, bath parameters, coating thickness and curing conditions. When these are not controlled, both product quality and unit cost suffer directly.
APPROACH
I mapped the existing process along its value stream to identify the parameters that drive cost and quality, evaluated parameter sets systematically with a design of experiments (Taguchi) approach, and turned the new methods into standard work instructions together with production, engineering and sales.
RESULT
30% improvement in operational production costs and 27% in overall production parameters.
MY ROLE
Process analysis, design of experiments, cross-functional coordination
